Bahrain’s voice ‘now heard globally’
BAHRAIN is the “voice of the region” that is being heard globally, thanks to its position at the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA), a top official has said.
Extending the country’s vice-presidency at the UNEA is proof of the fact that the region has retained its faith in Bahrain’s strides in the field of environment, said Supreme Council for Environment chairman Dr Mohammed Bin Daina.
He was speaking to the GDN yesterday on the sidelines of a weekly majlis organised by the Capital Trustees Board.
The GDN reported yesterday that Bahrain has been confirmed as the vice-president of the UNEA for a second term. It was announced at the assembly’s fifth session, held under the theme ‘Strengthening Actions for Nature to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals’. It was attended by Dr Bin Daina who is also the special envoy for climate affairs.
“Retaining the position is indeed an honour and a recognition for Bahrain,” Dr Bin Daina told the GDN.
“The assembly has around 60 countries and the position reflects their faith in Bahrain.
“It shows that we have been successful in transporting the voice of the region on environmental issues to the world.”
