Bahrain’s recovery rate touches 70pc

BAHRAIN’S remarkable Covid-19 recovery rate stands at around 70 per cent, while the fatality rate remains extremely low, reassured a senior health official.

Health Ministry Under-Secretary Dr Waleed Al Manea yesterday revealed that the death rate in the country was around 0.24pc of the total cases, adding that it was the lowest in the region.

Bahrain has recorded 19,961 cases of Covid-19 since February 21, which includes 5,727 active cases, 14,185 recoveries and 49 fatalities.

“Our objective is to combat Covid-19 and its spread through a unified effort,” said Dr Al Manea.

“The total recoveries out of the active cases has reached 70.45pc, which is a positive indicator, while the death rate is 0.24pc and this is really low.”

He was addressing a Press conference yesterday, alongside members of the National Task Force for Combating Coronavirus (Covid-19)

Lieutenant Colonel Dr Manaf Al Qahtani, Lieutenant Colonel Dr Ahmed Al Ansari and Dr Jameela Al Salman.

Lt Col Dr Al Qahtani also explained that the fatalities are not related to a ‘second wave’ of the virus, as countries across the globe have reported an increased number of cases.

“Deaths have nothing to do with the second wave and the deaths in Bahrain are less than neighbouring countries and less internationally,” he said.

“The reasons could be varied and among a number of individuals tested positive there could be critical cases and some fatalities due to immunity factors and others.”

Meanwhile, the task force is studying the protocols to be followed when fully reopening Bahrain International Airport, added Dr Al Manea.

He said the team was working closely with the Interior Ministry, Bahrain Airport Company and Gulf Air.
