Bahrain's efforts to boost human fraternity, coexistence stressed
Manama, Mar. 12 (BNA): Shura Council Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh has underlined Bahrain’s keenness, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to foster humanitarian brotherhood, coexistence, mutual respect and moderation. He said that those values are emphasized by the National Action Charter (NAC) and the kingdom’s constitution, describing the royal initiative to establish the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence as a milestone in Bahrain’s civilizational record and a pioneering step in promoting global peace and fighting all forms of fanaticism.
Addressing the 146th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly, being held in Bahrain from March 11 to 15, the Shura Council Chairman, the Head of Bahrain’s parliamentary delegation, expressed thanks and appreciation to HM the King for patronizing the international parliamentary gathering which convened to discuss peaceful coexistence and combating fanaticism. He noted that the Kingdom of Bahrain has been known throughout history as the meeting point of civilisations, cultures and religions and the land of peace, coexistence, tolerance and dialogue.
The Shura Council Chairman reiterated the call of HM the King on the international community to boost legislative and technical cooperation to approve an international agreement criminalizing the discourse of religious hatred, sectarianism and all forms of racism. He pointed out the inspirational role of the Declaration of Bahrain, which was inaugurated by HM the King in 2017, in putting the framework for social stability, human fraternity and sustainable growth.
The Shura Council Chairman commended the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to the legislative branch in Bahrain and his call to use parliamentary diplomacy to promote the noble values of coexistence, tolerance and peace. He also voiced the kingdom’s support to the emergency clause proposed by the brethren in Qatar to incriminate contempt for religions, hatred and intolerance. He expressed hope the clause would be approved by the parliamentary delegations, pointing out the dire need for concerted efforts to work out a joint legislative document that would serve as a roadmap for growth and development.
