Bahrain’s efforts to achieve food security highlighted
Cairo, Feb.11 (BNA): Council of Representatives First Deputy Speaker Mp Abdulnabi Salman said that the Kingdom of Bahrain attaches great importance to food security.
He noted the support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, noting that the issue of food security matters a lot for future generations.
The Deputy Speaker was addressing the fifth conference of the heads of parliament, which was held in Cairo, the Arab Republic of Egypt on February 8-11,
The Deputy Speaker, who led Bahrain’s delegation to the conference, stressed the royal directives to the legislative branch of government to find solutions that improve the quality of human life, especially in the field of achieving food security.
“Bahrain took the initiative to adopt appropriate solutions to develop areas of self-sufficiency, through the development and implementation of a strategic project for national food production”, he said.
He noted the allocation of multiple sites for fish farming and plant production, which aims mainly at developing national capabilities in the field of food industries, raising the proportion of local production.
He also highlighted the launch of the Food Security Strategy 2020-2030 jointly between the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
