Bahrain’s economic recovery plan praised

BAHRAIN’S launch of the Economic Recovery Plan reflects its forward-looking vision, and ability to adapt to changes, according to a top International Monetary Fund (IMF) official.

IMF’s Arab Group executive director Dr Mahmoud Mohieldin, who is currently visiting the kingdom, commended steps taken by Bahrain to provide health and social protection for citizens and residents during the exceptional circumstances created by the pandemic.

He was speaking during a meeting yesterday with Deputy Premier and ministerial committee for financial and economic affairs and fiscal balance chairman Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa at Gudaibiya Palace, in the presence of Finance and National Economy Minister Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.

Shaikh Khalid said that Bahrain, led by His Majesty King Hamad, is keen to strengthen its relations and co-operation with UN institutions and agencies, particularly the IMF, to mitigate the impact of Covid-19.

He paid tribute to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for leading national efforts to combat the pandemic.

The Deputy Premier asserted that Bahrain, while implementing the initiatives and priorities of its Economic Recovery Plan, is always keen to create promising job opportunities for citizens.

“We are also keen to accelerate the pace of growth by facilitating procedures and developing promising sectors to enable them to contribute effectively and positively to the GDP, as well as stimulate the economic environment through major development projects,” he added.
