Bahrain women's strides highlighted at Women Political Leaders Summit 2021
Manama, June 21 (BNA): Chairperson of the Women and Child Affairs Committee at the Shura Council, Dr. Ibtisam Mohammed Saleh Al-Dalal, has affirmed that Bahraini women have achieved remarkable local and international success as major and essential partners in the kingdom’s development march, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
She asserted that HM the King’s care and direct support for Bahraini women’s affairs and advancement are evident in the royal approval of the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women, aimed at achieving equal partnership in order to build a competitive and sustainable society.
Dr. Al-Dalal, the Ambassador of the Women Political Leaders Global Forum, made the statements while participating in the Women Political Leaders Summit 2021, held virtually today under the theme “Building Forward: Women Political Leaders Determining the New Normal.”
During the summit, Dr. Al-Dalal reviewed the situation of Bahraini women, and shed light on their achievements across various fields.
She affirmed that Bahraini women have proved their distinction in the various leadership positions they have held in the executive and legislative branches, in addition to the diplomatic, economic and entrepreneurship fields, thanks to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s full support for the programmes and plans of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW).
The landmark achievements of Bahraini women are also the fruitful outcome of the efforts of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King and SCW President, to enhance Bahraini women’s competitive potentials in the development process which is based on equal opportunities and the integration of women’s needs in it, she added.
The Shura committee chairperson also pointed out that as many as 24 equal opportunities units have been set up at various ministries and state departments to achieve gender equality and fairness at work, noting that the principle of equal opportunities has become one of the fundamentals of institutional work in the kingdom, resulting in women’s success in holding 32% of the supervisory positions in the executive branch.
The Women Political Leaders Summit 2021 focused on ways to implement systematic changes to ensure that women leaders are capable of forming more inclusive and equitable societies in the midst of the pandemic and the upcoming economic and social recovery, as well as implement the Decade of Action challenge to achieve sustainable development goals.
The summit also sought to establish working links with the United Nations’ initiative of “Women Rise for All”, and “Women's Generation Equality” campaign.
