Bahrain shifts to remote collection of Zakat Al Fitr

Cairo: Bahrain’s Ministry of Labour and Social Development has required non-governmental groups to turn to electronic collection of the Zakat Al Fitr paid to the poor before the end of the Ramadan month as part of efforts to curb the spread of new coronavirus.

In the past Ramadans, this kind of alms were raised through booths set up in public booths.

Upon recommendations from the National Medical Team on COVID-19, the ministry has issued a circular to all NGOs in the country emphasizing the necessity of abiding all anti-virus precautions including the use of electronic platforms and applications to collect the Zakat Al Fitr this year, Najwa Abdul Latif, the head of the ministry’s NGO Support Directorate said.

The ministry has banned street charity and distribution of iftar meals in public to prevent the spread of the highly contagious disease.
