Bahrain Rugby Football Club’s renovated outdoor area opens

THE shades have gone up at a popular expat club in Bahrain with an artificial garden paradise created to offer a cool and greener outside ambience for members and guests.

New British ambassador Roddy Drummond performed one of his first official duties by cutting the ribbon at the grand opening of the Bahrain Rugby Football Club’s (BRFC) renovated outdoor area on Thursday evening.

General Manager Derek McKenzie said: “This summer has been a great opportunity for us to continue with upgrades of the facilities.

“We have altered the outdoor area, levelling the floor with new block-work and drainage. It is now called “The Garden”. The artificial foliage hanging from the new roof gives this area a relaxing feel with the added benefit of shade!”

Outlets at the Janabiya sporting facility have also been refurbished with one receiving new décor and flooring, along with stylish furniture and an improved TV system.

“One of the main focal points of any sports club must be the gym and this was long overdue a makeover,” added Mr McKenzie. “We feel we have now maximised the floor space and created a much improved area for members to train and to also to welcome them. The gym will be further improved with the introduction of extra equipment.

“Next on our hit-list is the Children’s Playground. We are looking to improve the equipment and safety of this area. Watch this space!

“We will continue to look at ways to improve not only the facilities here at BRFC but also the overall experience. Many improvements do go unnoticed such as training and IT updates and, not all ideas will become a reality, but what is essential is that we will not stand still.”

The latest projects have been carried out internally by the club’s own team of designers and maintenance operatives.

BRFC currently boasts a membership of around 3,500-strong. After the ribbon-cutting a packed crowd enjoyed a live music party.
