Bahrain announces causeway precautionary entry measures

MANAMA: Bahrain yesterday urged passengers arriving via King Fahad Causeway to vigilantly follow all health and precautionary measures and social distancing guidelines issued by relevant authorities within the kingdom.

This came as the kingdom announced entry procedures. It said masks must be worn at all times when out in public, and gatherings must be avoided.

The kingdom reiterated the importance of self-isolating and contacting the hotline 444 if one experiences flu related symptoms such as a headache, coughing, loss of sense of smell and taste, body aches and pains, and a fever.

Meanwhile, Saudi website Al Yaum said a large number of Saudi citizens and residents have started travelling to Bahrain across the causeway since early yesterday morning.

The rush coincided with a decision by the Saudi Interior Ministry to reopen the causeway after it was closed due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Vehicles had been queuing on the causeway since 6am yesterday heading to Bahrain as part of categories exempted from the interior ministry’s decision concerning suspension of international flights and gradual lifting of travel restrictions for some categories.

The Association of Bahraini Travel and Tours Agents stressed the need to revise some decisions concerning health measures and Covid-19 swab collections with the reopening of King Fahad Causeway for Bahrainis. It said the existing measures are “abusive”, impact travel movement and investment and disrupt interests of many passengers.
