Alba in push to achieve ESG goals

Alba is collaborating with a top-class sustainability consultant to develop a fully-fledged roadmap to realise its Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) goals in line with Bahrain’s commitment for net zero emissions by 2060.

The roadmap will lay out quick wins, short-term and long-term goals in line with the company’s mission to inspire change and boost its status as an Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) certified aluminium producer.

The smelter has issued a public tender for supplying and installing solar panels for its solar farm with a view to diversify its energy sources and adopt clean energy in line with Vision 2030 and its green energy targets.

The solar farm project will have a capacity of more than 5 MW and cover an approximate surface area of 37,000sqm spread over operational areas, car parks and Alba Club.

Alba chief executive Ali Al Baqali said: “We can’t delegate our ESG transformation, we collectively must own it and embrace it. ESG is not a destination but a journey. What we have is agility and today I call upon each one to embrace our nation’s objectives under the leadership of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain to reach net zero by 2060.

Alba has also signed an MoU with the Sustainable Energy Authority that will help it leverage the authority’s expertise to find sustainable energy solutions.

With more actionable plans on clean energy, environment protection, waste management, responsible sourcing, in the pipeline, Alba will be using its resources to play a leading role across its supply chain.
