Action urged over high test fees

AN MP is questioning the price of Covid-19 tests offered at private hospitals following complaints over their cost and the alternative of having to queue for hours at random testing sites.

MP Hamad Al Kooheji is conducting his own survey on the controversy, and has asked Health Minister Faeqa Al Saleh to respond to concerns raised.

“There is public outrage over this matter,” said Mr Al Kooheji.

“People have to either queue up for three to four hours for random tests or go for expensive private tests.

“Imagine a family of five having to pay BD40 each on average, or being forced to stand in a queue for hours, or having to declare themselves as being in contact with someone who has tested positive and then having to face 10 days in quarantine.”
