A global spotlight: Best of Bahrain goes on show at Expo 2020 Dubai

DUBAI: The best of Bahrain’s proud culture and innovative modernity are under the global spotlight as the kingdom opened its pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.

Entitled ‘Density Weaves Opportunity’, the pavilion was inaugurated yesterday by its commissioner general and Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca) president Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa.

The authority will hold a ceremony on November 25 on the sidelines of the expo under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad, marking Bahrain’s National Day.

Shaikha Mai said the National Pavilion, which reflects the concept of density through its architectural design and diverse cultural programmes, will help create promising opportunities in economy, culture and sustainable development.

“Expo 2020 Dubai gives Bahrain the ideal opportunity to promote its most beautiful image, which is reflected through distinct civilisational elements and cultural components,” said Shaikha Mai. “Culture is a ray of hope in a world recovering from a crisis that has spread across all aspects of life.

“Bahrain is present with its ancient heritage and rich history. It’s reflected in our pavilion that displays the beauty of our buildings and urban innovation – both past and modern.”

Shaikha Mai hailed royal support for placing Bahrain on the map of the global economy.

She applauded pavilion volunteers and appreciated the participation of musicians, artists and craftsmen from Bahrain.

GCC pavilion representatives and GCC secretary general Dr Nayef Al Hajraf attended the launch.

Visitors praised the pavilion’s design by architect Christian Kerez Zurich AG, its content and authentic culinary creations by Bahraini chefs Bassam Al Alawi and Lulwa Al Sowalih at the pavilion cafe.
