40pc of Bahrain’s population tested

MANAMA: More than 40 per cent of Bahrain’s population has been tested for the coronavirus.

As of last night, 710,686 people had been screened for the virus, which is 41.3pc of the country’s population which stands at 1,703,256 according to the latest UN data.

The figure makes Bahrain as being one of the countries having the highest testing rate per 1,000 people.

Meanwhile, three people died from the virus yesterday taking the total fatalities to 124.

These included two citizens – a man, aged 58, and a 76-year-old woman – and an expatriate man, aged 55, according to the Health Ministry.

Bahrain till date has recorded 35,473 cases of Covid-19 including 4,161 active cases, 31,188 recoveries and 124 deaths.

The recoveries stand at 87.8pc, while fatalities form 0.35pc of the total cases.

Shura Council first deputy chairman Jamal Fakhro also took to Twitter highlighting the number of people screened, which he said, “reflects the leadership’s keenness on people’s health”.
