$200,000 Bahrain honour for doctors

MANAMA: The Premier has allocated $200,000 for the Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa Award for Bahraini Doctors.

His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa had called for celebrating Bahraini Doctors’ Day on the first Wednesday in November and for presenting an award to distinguished Bahraini doctors.

A meeting was held yesterday to discuss arrangements to celebrate Bahraini Doctors’ Day, and review procedures for launching the award.

The award shall be granted in two categories. The ‘Innovation and Creative Award in Therapeutic, Clinical and Medical Research’ will go to three Bahraini doctors who have prepared therapeutic, clinical and medical scientific research and achieved distinguished achievements in their medical field characterised by creativity and innovation.

The “Extended Loyalty and Giving Award” will be granted to one of the Bahraini doctors who has worked for a period of no less than 30 years, in recognition and appreciation of his or her efforts and contributions.

The meeting was attended by Shaikh Hussam bin Essa Al Khalifa from the Premier’s Court, Health Minister Faeqa Al Saleh and Bahrain Medical Society president Dr Ghada Al Qasim.

Shaikh Hussam stressed the importance of the Premier’s initiative which reflects his visions and aspirations in supporting national cadres.

He said the award’s general secretariat had begun developing the necessary scenarios and the procedures to present the award.

He also noted that the basic system of the award has been set and a committee formed to choose the winner.

The committee comprises representatives from the Prime Minister’s Court, the Health Ministry, the BMS president, the Arab Gulf University president, the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland – Bahrain president, a representative of the World Health Organisation, as well as international experts in the field of medical research.
