20 new projects worth $30 billion announced

A total of $30 billion will be invested in Bahrain on 20 projects over the coming years, a top official said today.

The projects include the construction of five new offshore cities.

Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa said the new Strategic Projects Plan aims to drive investment, advance infrastructure, create jobs, and boost economic growth in the country.

He was speaking during a Press conference at the Arcapita building alongside other ministers.

Ambitious projects include a 109-km metro system, the 22.5-km Northern Road, and a new King Hamad causeway connection that connects the kingdom with Saudi Arabia.

Under the plan, two new education projects were announced, a College of Engineering at the Bahrain University and The King Abdullah Medical City, a university hospital that will include a medical research and development centre.

In addition, two new hospitals will open including the Dilmunia Health Services Complex with an estimated 16,665sqm area and a capacity of 200 beds and The King Hamad American Mission Hospital in Aali will house 125 beds and rely on 75 per cent of its energy from solar panels.
