Top global firms to take part in air show

FAI Aviation Group, a leading provider of mission-critical aviation services, will for the first time take part in the fifth Bahrain International Airshow (BIAS) 2018, it was announced yesterday.

The Germany-based company is an associate of Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat.

FAI Aviation is one of the world’s largest air ambulance jet operators by revenue, having logged more than 200,000 hours flying air ambulance missions.

It is also Germany’s largest general aviation operator by fleet, operating more than 13,000 hours of airtime in 2017.

The company offers fixed-wing air ambulance, special missions, charter and aircraft management, in addition to full maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services.

FAI Aviation will showcase its D-AFAN Challenger 850 aircraft, which offers spacious cabins that provide maximum flexibility for VIP transport and air ambulance requirements.

The luxury plane can carry up to 14 passengers.

Moreover, the aircraft can be configured as a specially-equipped air ambulance, with a complete set of medical and technical equipment that meets the highest international standards.

Mumtalakat acquired 30 per cent stake in the German aviation company in 2017.

“Bahrain has achieved tremendous success in hosting the air show during the past four years,” said Mumtalakat chief executive Mahmood Alkooheji.

“It is a valuable networking opportunity for the aviation industry and we are pleased that FAI will be joining our other key subsidiaries this year.

“Our investment in FAI marks our first investment in Germany – within an important sub-sector of the aviation and consumer industries – and is in line with our ongoing efforts in diversifying our portfolio assets.”

The aviation sector is a growing and promising sector, he said, adding that 36 million new aviation-related jobs are expected to be created by 2030.

FAI Aviation chairman Dr Siegfried Axtmann said the firm had already become the largest ambulance jet provider in the Gulf and expects to “attract more clients to experience FAI’s excellent service when it comes to VIP-Charter, aircraft management and maintenance of Bombardier Aircraft”.

Meanwhile, Bahrain-based MENA Aerospace said it will reveal new partnerships and sign deals during the air show.

A partnership with Austrian-based communications and information solutions provider Frequentis will be highlighted, with demonstration units featured for Frequentis Defence’s iSecCOM IP-based secure communications system, as well as for Frequentis Comsoft’s RAPS-3 surveillance data support, test and evaluation system.

MENA Aerospace founder and managing director Dr Mohammed Juman said the collaboration complements its track record and ongoing strategy of partnering with leading global entities to ensure the provision of comprehensive aviation and aerospace services, in Bahrain and the wider region.

“We are proud to be supporting efforts to market and secure contracts in relation to the potential procurement of this world-class technology by the Bahrain defence market,” he added.

Frequentis Middle East managing director Hank Rübenstrunk said the company has been providing mission-critical solutions for the civil and military market for seven decades, and was confident that the presentation of iSecCOM within Bahrain will enhance operations within the market-space.

InterTec, based in the UK, will be represented at BIAS 2018 by managing director Fred Gorrie.

In 2016 it formed a strategic alliance with MENA Aerospace’s technical arm, MENA Technics, to provide aircraft MRO management services in the region.

IJM Mena partner, Austria-based International Jet Management (IJM), offering aircraft management services and promotes, sells and co-ordinates V-VIP and corporate travel on chartered business jets, anticipates positive outcomes from discussions with the many attending companies, to further strengthening their position in the region.

For the first time the Missouri International Trade and Investment Office from Missouri will be attending the BIAS as part of the USA Pavilion and is set to meet MENA Aerospace executive management and partner companies. The delegation will also provide the opportunity to facilitate introductions to other key suppliers unable to travel to Bahrain.
