Inflation in Bahrain eases by 0.8 per cent

MANAMA: Inflation in Bahrain as measured by Consumer Price Index eased in September by 0.8 per cent from the previous month, shows the latest data from the Information and eGovernment Authority.

However, the CPI at 131.5 points in September, increased by 0.8pc when compared with the same month of 2017.

The inflation rate in consumer prices for the period from January until September of 2018 was 2.5pc compared with the same period of 2017.

Housing and utility costs, which account for 24pc of consumer expenses, remained largely unchanged from a year ago.

At 37.9pc, alcoholic beverages and tobacco saw the highest year-on-year rise from September 2017 to September this year, due largely to the selective tax on tobacco and its derivatives, energy drinks and soft drinks imposed from the start of this year.

Seen similarly, prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 0.7pc and clothing and footwear became cheaper by 5.2pc.
