High ranking for Covid relief

MANAMA: Bahrain tops GCC states and ranks among the world’s top countries in supporting citizens and residents as well as private companies most affected by Covid-19 in proportion to the GDP, according to a report released by KPMG.

The report covers the impact of the pandemic on GCC banking services and analysis of potential measures to confront it.

Bahrain provided a BD3.4 billion economic stimulus package, the equivalent of 30 per cent of its annual GDP, to support citizens and the private sector, the report said.

Oman ranked second, with a stimulus package accounting for 28pc of its GDP, and the UAE third with 17pc.

Bahrain also outclassed countries like Germany (16pc), France (2pc), Canada (3pc), Italy (2pc), Portugal (1pc), Spain (16pc), and the UK (14pc) in comparison with their GDPs, it said.
