Forum spotlight on challenges facing family businesses

MANAMA: KPMG in the region is finalising preparations for the Middle East and South Asia (MESA) Family Business Conference, set to take place on February 10 at the Ritz Carlton hotel in Dubai.

The theme this year is ‘driving growth through innovation and excellence’ and it will offer insight on the latest trends and challenges facing family business groups in the region.

The one-day conference will feature a keynote presentation and interactive workshops moderated by Tom McGinness, global co-chair for family business for KPMG, and Randel Carlock, professor in entrepreneurial leadership and founding director of the Wendel International Centre for Family Enterprise at Insead.

The workshops and panel discussions will cover: Leadership development, strategy and business governance, KPMG Family Business Survey, innovative organisations, succession planning, new technologies and how they impact growth.

Bahrain-based Harish Gopinath, head of family business and enterprise for KPMG Middle East and South Asia said, “We are excited to host this successful event for the fourth consecutive year. Each year, at least 100 members of prominent family businesses in the region come together to gain further insights on the market challenges and on how to grow their operations in current economic conditions.

“Prioritising governance and succession planning are also critical to shaping the future of their business, which will also be showcased during the conference.”
