EWA launches new video calling service

MANAMA: A video calling service to enable direct visual communication between Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) employees and subscribers was launched yesterday.

Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Wael Al Mubarak and EWA chief executive Shaikh Nawaf bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa inaugurated the service which is available on Skiplino.

It enables subscribers to inquire about services and complete their transactions through visual contact with employees in compliance with mandatory preventive measures to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The new virtual service proved a success, with 28,000 online calls reported during the preliminary trial phase.

The EWA Service Centre dealt with a total of 268,110 subscribers’ calls during the first quarter of 2021.

Subscribers can book appointments through the application, available on both Apple and Android stores. Employees will then contact them to finalise their transactions.

Another service allowing communication with deaf and dumb people has also been launched via number 33267444, without the need for a prior appointment.

The minister stressed keenness to enhance EWA digital services in line with the government’s directives to facilitate the delivery of procedures.
