Emergency plan ready for major Covid spike

MANAMA: Bahrain has emergency plans in place to deal with the situation should the spike in Covid cases continue, according to a top health official.

Negligence has led to the current surge in cases, and that is a challenge, Health Ministry Under-Secretary and National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus (Covid-19) member Dr Waleed Al Manea said yesterday.

He urged people to show community responsibility and comply with health protocols to reduce infections.

Dr Al Manea said it is possible to curb the spread of the new virus strains through compliance with the mandatory precautionary measures and vaccination.

Mobile units will step up daily random tests, including at sport clubs, local markets and public places, to examine citizens and residents.

Dr Al Manea said that the task force has selected some areas for it and added that such an approach will contribute to detecting cases that may be asymptomatic.

Dr Al Manea urged people wanting an optional examination or a pre-departure test to go to private hospitals licensed for them.

He said that list of authorised hospitals had already been announced and published on the official website of the Health Ministry.
