BD6 million in government procurement requests discussed at 42nd ICT Governance Committee meeting

Manama, Mar. 10 (BNA): Strategic procurement requests valued at approximately BD6 million were discussed at the 42nd Information and Communication Technology Governance Committee (ICTGC) meeting, chaired by Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) Chief Executive, Mohammed Ali Al Qaed. Held via video conference, the meeting’s topics included the development of a national strategy for the digital economy and a unified data platform for the Ministry of Education.

In line with the directives of the Kingdom’s leadership and Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, the committee reviewed the iGA’s national strategy for the digital economy, covering the Kingdom’s various sectors, including the deployment or enhancement of the most advanced technologies (e.g. Artificial Intelligence). Also discussed were support and maintenance procurement requests related to vital government systems.

The meeting reviewed the Ministry of Education’s unified data platform project, which is an initiative that aims to develop the ministry’s corporate structure by hosting all of its important data and documents and allowing them to be retrieved in real-time. This will help streamline the ministry’s services and procedures to meet the demands of government entities and decision-makers. The project is set to be implemented in partnership with the iGA as part of its ‘Data Lake’ project which utilizes advanced technologies such as AI to display, analyze, and search for data.

The committee then discussed developing the laboratory data management system at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, which will efficiently manage, update, and streamline the use of the ministry’s lab data.

Following a review of government support and maintenance procurement requests, Al Qaed concluded the meeting by reviewing implemented decisions from the committee’s previous meetings and praising the active role that its members are taking in supporting those decisions.

The meeting was attended by iGA Deputy CE of Electronic Transformation, Dr. Zakareya Ahmed AlKhajah; Deputy Prime Minister’s Office Committee Affairs Coordinator, Dr. Aref AbdulRahman Abdulkarim; Ministry of Finance and National Economy Assistant Undersecretary of Resources and Information and Future Generation Reserve Acting CEO, Ebrahim Abul; Ministry of Education Assistant Undersecretary for Planning and Information, Nawal Al Khater;  Economic Development Board Corporate Services Director, Maha Mufeez; University of Bahrain College of IT Dean, Dr. Lamya Al-Jasmi; and Information Technology Project Management Consultant, Ali Al-Soufi.
