Banks vow to back safety steps

Bahrain-based banks will not spare any efforts to comply with precautionary measures taken by the government to contain the spread of the coronavirus, said Al Baraka Banking Group chief executive and Bahrain Association of Banks chairman Adnan Yousif.

All banks in the kingdom welcomed the decision of the Central Bank of Bahrain to postpone payment of loan instalments, showing a good understanding of the exceptional circumstances the country is going through, he said.

Such solidarity reflects the social responsibility demonstrated by banking institutions towards the country and citizens, he added.

Most banks operating in Bahrain, if not all, have set up a remote work policy to curb the spread of the virus, although many branches, including Al Baraka’s, will be open today to receive clients who are unable to carry out their banking transactions online, he pointed out.

He called on all institutions operating in the banking, financial, commercial, tourism and service sectors, along with others, to hold a conference, in co-ordination with decision-making establishments, to discuss the current international conditions and agree on a national prevention strategy.
