Bahraini mothers in public sector directed to work from home

Manama: His Majesty King Hamad yesterday directed authorities to enable Bahraini mothers employed in ministries, government bodies and institutions to work from home.

The royal gesture aims to provide support to working mothers to enable them to take care of their children as public and private schools and kindergartens have been closed down to tackle the coronavirus outbreak.

His Majesty said authorities would however regulate the procedure, taking into account public interest which requires working mothers to continue performing their duties in vital areas, especially in the health and security sectors. The King paid tribute to Bahraini mothers, hailing their landmark achievements in all fields.

The King took pride in their crucial role in Bahrain’s renaissance, hailing them as a “school” which brought forth successive generations that contributed to the kingdom’s progress and prosperity.

The directive is in recognition of Bahraini women’s noble responsibilities in bringing up generations and caring for their families, he said. It also follows Bahrain marking Mother’s Day yesterday.

Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty and Supreme Council for Women president, yesterday hailed the royal directive.

She said it serves the national plan to promote empowerment of Bahraini women, supports family stability and enables women to reconcile between family and national duties.

“This could usher in a new phase for women’s work in various service and production sectors in Bahrain,” she said.
