Bahrain-origin exports jump 34pc to BD621m

MANAMA: Bahrain’s national origin exports during the third quarter this year amounted to BD621 million, increasing by 34 per cent compared with BD465m for the same period last year, shows the latest report from the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA).

The report that includes data on balance of trade, imports, exports and re-exports (national origin) said during the quarter from June to September Bahrain’s top 10 trading partners accounted for 81pc of the exported national origin value with the remaining claimed by other countries.

With a value of BD133m, Saudi Arabia was ranked the top importer of Bahraini products followed by Oman with BD85m and the US in third place with BD64m, the iGA said.

Agglomerated iron ores and concentrates emerged as the top product exported from Bahrain with a value of BD107m followed by aluminium wires with a value of BD84m and unwrought aluminium in third place accounting for BD53m.

The report also found that the value of re-exports decreased by 9pc to BD116m for the third quarter when compared with BD128m for the same period of the previous year, with the top 10 trading partners accounting for 90pc of the re-exported value.

Saudi Arabia was the leading market for re-exports from Bahrain accounting for a value of BD43m, followed by China claiming BD22m and the UAE coming third with BD14m.

Four-wheel drive vehicles emerged as the top product re-exported from Bahrain with a value of BD24m, cigarettes came in second place netting BD8m followed by parts of motor vehicles in third place with BD3m.

The report said the value of imports increased by 18pc reaching BD1.417 billion during the quarter when compared with BD1.203bn for the same quarter of the previous year with the top 10 trading partners accounting for 66pc of the imports value.

China was ranked as the top exporter to Bahrain with BD181m, followed by the US with BD132m and the UAE in third place with BD126m.

Aluminium oxide emerged as the top product imported into Bahrain with a value of BD107m while non-agglomerated iron ores and concentrates were the second most imported at BD64m and four-wheel drive vehicles in third place with BD50m.

The trade balance or the difference between imports and exports amounted to a deficit of BD679m, 11pc higher than BD621m for the same period of the previous year.
