Bahrain leads region in number of listed banks

MANAMA: Bahrain ranks first in terms of the number of banks listed among the top 60 Islamic banks and second in terms of the number of Islamic financial institutions in the Arab region, said Khaleeji Commercial Bank (KHCB) chief executive Sattam Sulaiman Algosaibi, citing the latest reports issued by the Union of Arab Banks.

Mr Algosaibi made these comments yesterday during the AAOIFI-World Bank 13th Annual Conference, in which the Bahrain-based Islamic bank is taking part as a ‘Gold Partner’.

“The conference will seek to address the most important issues and developments related to Islamic products and services, in order to advance the international Islamic financial industry and support opportunities of digital innovation and expansion throughout the world, while retaining integrity and commitment to Sharia principles,” he added.

The event is themed – The Role of Standardisation for the Future of Islamic Finance – and is taking place under the patronage of the Central Bank of Bahrain.
