BAHRAIN’S efforts to promote the use of eco-friendly vehicles will come under the spotlight at a conference to be launched next week.
Mobility 360, on Sunday and Monday, will discuss a major shift the kingdom’s transport sector is set to witness following reports that the concept of electric cars and alternative energy vehicles is gaining popularity
To be held under the theme, ‘Innovation in Sustainable Mobility’, the conference is being organised by the Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry in co-operation with German event organiser, Messe Frankfurt Middle East and the GCC Standardisation Authority.
Minister Zayed Alzayani will patronise the event at the Bahrain International Convention and Exhibition Centre, Sanabis.
The initiative follows the Cabinet’s approval of a plan to improve energy proficiency by six per cent by 2025 as part of efforts to reduce gas pollutants.
Mr Alzayani described the conference as a first step towards developing infrastructure to accommodate electric cars, stressing the importance of adopting incentives to encourage people to switch to eco-friendly means
An exhibition showcasing electric cars with high energy efficiencies will be held on the sidelines of the conference.
“The conference is an opportunity for the private sector to keep abreast of latest car technologies and supply the market with these cars that incorporate energy efficiency features,” said Mr Alzayani.
“The conference is also an opportunity to keep updated about self-drive vehicles and peer-to-peer ride sharing taxi cabs.”
A workshop on GCC car certificates will also be held on the sidelines of the conference.
